THE ROLE OF CHRISTIANITY IN SLAVERY
By Serwaa Ampaafo
Religions are not based on truth and it is for this reason there is NO one true religion. There are over a thousand gods on our planet all of which followers claim to be true. In the same lens Christians view hinduism is the same way hindus also view christianity etc.
Christianity and Islam are the two most popular religions across the world yet the most dumbest and blood thirsty in terms of philosophy as compared to Kemet spirituality, Buddhism, Taoism, hinduism etc. though they equally have their shortcomings.
In our cosmology as Africans there is no allah, jesus, lao tzu, buddha etc and so we didnt know about heaven, hell, a sky daddy and his satan until we were invaded.
Christianity has never been an African religion as many claim. Usually religionists and their apologists cite Ethiopia as the roots of christianity which is largely false because there were no christians in Ethiopia until Italian invasions.
The already-existing Ethiopian spiritual practices were only similar to what Roman missionaries taught and so brainwashing and corrupting them was easy.
The original Ethiopian doctrine which Europeans plagiarized and incorporated into their bible taught of an Ethiopian teacher who was born in a cave and not like that of jesus who was born by immaculate conception and in a manger as christianity propagates. The move to accept and promote christianity was initiated by their leader Ezana.
Africans in the sub-saharan and the other regions were largely introduced to Christianity and Islam through colonialism, slavery and coercion.
The imperialist in charge of a conquered territory determined the kind of religion that was tolerated thus British imperialism promoted Christianity whereas Arab imperialism promoted Islam.
King James owner of the popular king james version of the bible was a notorious slave trader who and was rumoured to be a homosexual who loved his cousin who he later murdered. Some of the verses king James inserted in the bible to encourage slavery were;
Ephesians 6:5 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ”
Colossians 3:32 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord”
1Timothy 6:1 “All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.
These verses coupled with many others in Exodus, Deutronomy, leviticus and psalms were read to slaves during mass before they were transported across the Atlantic ocean to Europe/America.
When the slaves arrived at their destinations, the brainwashing continued and in fact it is one of the reasons slavery lasted for over 300years because the enslaved believed and trusted their suffering were divine thus hardly revolted against the ill system.
In Ghana on top of the male dungeon at Elmina castle was the church which was responsible for brainwashing the slaves before they crossed the atlantic.
